Polish Ministry of Defence State Secretary Wojciech Skurkiewicz responded on the 27th of April to the questions regarding the Wojska Obrony Terytorialnej (WOT – Territorial Defence Force). Questions were presented by the following Members of Parliament: Artur Gierada, Joanna Mucha, Sławomir Nitras, Paweł Olszewski, Agnieszka Pomaska, Cezary Tomczyk and Rafał Trzaskowski.
State Secretary informed that 9047 soldiers currently serve in the 5th branch of Polish Military Forces. The maximum staffing is planned to be 17.000 men and women. This should happen by the end of 2018. MILMAG Military Magazine was informed by WOT Headquarters that after the 12th-13th weekend of May, the number of soldiers in WOT will exceed 10.000. This is connected to another oath ceremony taking place on the beforementioned weekend (First Warmate operators in WOT 2018-04-30, MSPO17: Grot for WOT 2017-09-10).
According to Wojciech Skurkiewicz, PLN 879,3 million (EUR 205,5 million) of Ministry`s of Defence budget were spent on WOT creation and recruitment in 2017. Budget for 2018 is going to be PLN 1491,8 million (EUR 349 million). State Secretary also informed, that in 2017 WOT forces were supporting the public administration`s efforts to monitor the spread of African swine fever sickness.
